Where it All Began

When I first joined Gather Event Planning as a wedding planning assistant, I thought it would be a chance to learn a few things about planning events. But it turned out to be so much more! Working under Karissa Kjos has been an adventure filled with late nights, lots of laughter, and more than a few happy tears (I'm not joking here; I cried at every wedding) as we helped couples bring their wedding dreams to life.

I got to learn from the absolute best; Karissa is a powerhouse. Her energy, creativity, and endless ideas make her a natural leader. Every day, she showed me how to manage the dozens of tiny details that make a wedding unforgettable. She taught me that every detail is manageable, from setting up tablescapes to adjusting seating charts. Karissa’s magic touch is in every part of the day, and her wedding approach has inspired me. Her ability to connect with clients is unmatched and something I hope to do someday.

Every wedding is its own world, and I’ve been lucky to witness so many touching moments: happy tears, first dances, and even that beautiful moment when a bride walks down the aisle. One of the most surprising parts of this job is the range of skills it requires. Not only am I learning about floral arrangements and color coordination, but I’m also learning to think on my feet, communicate with vendors, and support the couple and their families.

Being part of Gather Event Planning has shown me there’s magic in being a small piece of someone’s big day. It’s a joy that’s hard to explain but easy to feel whenever we step back and see the final result. I’m grateful to Karissa for being an amazing mentor and to all the couples for letting us share in their celebrations.

Karissa has helped shape me into the wedding planner I am today and encouraged me to create my own business. Key Event Planning wouldn't be happening without her.

Summer 2024 forever changed my life. Who would have thought a dm to a random event planner in Fargo would shape my career? I for sure didn't, but thank goodness it did!

All my love,

Kiya
